The magnificent large, finely modelled vintage plaster bust of Ariadne, daughter of Pasiphae and the Cretan king Minos. In Greek mythology, she fell in love with Theseus and with a thread and weapon helped him escape the Labyrinth and defeat the Minotaur, that Minos kept in the Labyrinth. The bust features internal structural fibres. The presence of these fibres indicates traditional, finely modelled hand plaster casting and authentic age, distinguishing it from modern, lightweight reproductions. Ariadne is a wonderful, highly sought classical piece.
